Once upon a time there lived a girl named Amanda. She wanted to start a fashion and lifestyle blog to document her favorite outfits and everyday activities. However, she didn’t know what to name that blog! After googling ‘creative blog names’ she focused on some of her favorites like Barefoot Blonde and Brooklyn Blonde. Since Amanda had long, dirty-blonde hair, she knew she wanted to incorporate that into her title too. She plugged in a countless number of word combinations through different domain name websites and to her surprise, dirty-blonde diaries was open! She was so excited that she immediately bought it for 3 years to make sure no one would get a chance to swipe it! It was perfect! It had that blonde aspect she wanted, and still had that diary type of feel so she could feel the freedom to post her thoughts and opinions galore.
She was SO excited that she ran into the living room and told her dad what her new blog will be called. “That sounds like a porno” he said.
The room grew silent.
She told him he was crazy for thinking that, and went about her business creating posts and building a following! Just three months later, she created a Bloglovin’ account for her blog and realized she had a new follower so she was stoked! She excitedly went over to her Bloglovin’ account to find a very disgusting/graphic porn based account following her.
Ever since that moment, Amanda grew more and more embarrassed of her domain name. She was so embarrassed to even tell people what it was called when they asked, feeling as if they would immediately jump to the conclusion that it was a dirty site.
And thus, Cinderella Standard was born!! It took a while to come up with the name and instead of simply changing the domain name, I actually took down my whole site (which I regret). But now Cinderella Standard is alive and well!
Moral of the story?
When choosing a domain name for your blog or website, make SURE you won’t feel embarrassed by the name later on! But even if you do, getting a new domain is a simple and affordable fix (depending on how long you buy the domain name for)!
So that’s it, that’s the story! What about you guys, any embarrassing moments or things you’ve learned along the way to creating your blog? Let us know(: Happy blogging!
